June 10

Wow. What a busy meeting. When I arrived at about 12:07, the greeters had been acknowledged, the invocation given, the Pledge of Allegiance said and the guests introduced. I looked around and spied only one guest, RuAnn Root, returning for a second visit. (I apologize if I missed any one.) Doug was already doing the announcements and when he had a chance, he leaned over and told me that reason the meeting started early was that the program portion required more time than usual. Then all of a sudden it was time for Don and Mary, but there was no Mary. Or Darla. Or Lila. We had just begun singing a capella (Don said not only were we singing a capella, but we were singing without instruments) when Lucky Lila walked through the door and was instructed to go straight to the piano. She did an admirable job with no notice or practice, on top of what I think was a stressful morning for her. Amazing. And of course, while we were all heartily singing with Don and LiVila, Mary walked in.

Back to the announcements. Checks were given to RuAnn for CASA and Dan Rutt for Revive. Drew spoke on the Kaboom playground project. We thanked Neil Grothen for drving the campers to Camp OK and Don Janssen (in advance) for picking them up. Thanks also to Ashley for transporting Jordan Hammond. The Free Meal went to Kathy Schultz. During Happy Basket Renee Johnson was happy for the success of her VBS, which is in its last two days. Ken Franzen was happy because several members helped to finish the tree plant at the Arboretum. (Tom Genung told me that the planters were Ken, Tom, Eric Buderus and Mike Howie. Sorry if we missed anyone.)

The much anticipated and very interesting program was Ron Haase's mission trip to Niagara(oops! Should have said Nicaragua. See Kathy's comment. Thanks Kathy.) He will be returning for another trip soon and needs various items--he left a list--including school supplies.

Upcoming events include a Kiwanis/KAH packing event on June 15 from 6 to 8, to use up inventory. Bring your family and an appetite because food will be served.

Fire detector installation project coming up June 26. Ask Neil.

Friends of the Library sale is coming soon—July 10th I believe.

  1. Actually, the mission trip was to Nicaragua. (I don't know if there are mission trips to Niagara--maybe only honeymoon trips!)
